From early to late summer in 2010, the Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute and KVINFO, the Danish Center for Information on Gender, Equality and Ethnicity, has helped develop a new agenda for working with gender equality in Egypt and the Arab world through the project "Changing Masculinities, Changing Communities". As parts of the project, a workshop for young filmmakers in Cairo and an academic roundtable discussion in Cairo about the definition of "masculinity" in the Arabic language were conducted. The sessions were taped and edited and can now be seen here.
The workshops paired Danish and Egyptian participants who explored and discussed the changing concepts of masculinity and the way in which masculinity is being performed and constructed in the city spaces of Copenhagen and Cairo. The group of participants were composed of artists, social workers, peadagogues, activists, theorists, filosophers, theatre and movie makers in order to create a crossdisciplinary and multiperspective approach to masculinity.
