The latest woman to be appointed minister in a Kuwaiti government has pledged a new approach to her performance and called for securing more rights for women.
“I will see to work at the ministry based on a new strategy that will match its local and international dimensions and outreach,” Dhikra Al Rashidi, the minister of social affairs and labour, said.

Egyptian women who joined their male compatriots in the protest movement that brought down the Mubarak regime face the likelihood that a new national constitution will retain a provision making gender equality in the country conditional on shari’a (Islamic law). Egypt moved closer to a new constitution Sunday, when political parties reportedly reached agreement on remaining sticking points, including the role of shari’a and gender equality.

Nearly 30,000 persons rallied on Monday evening in Tunis to claim the protection and advancement of women's gains and enshrine effective gender equality into the new constitution. It started about two hours after fast-breaking from the January 14 Square in Tunis and headed to Mohamed V Avenue where demonstrators gathered in front of the Human Rights Square, shouting slogans calling for total equality between men and women.
