The “overarching” issues of gender equality and women’s rights will be the focus of an international conference, slated to open in Amman next Sunday. The 11th Conference of the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) will provide a platform for participants from all over the world to discuss means to empower women and enhance their participation in boosting the economy, organisers said.

On 2 June KVINFO became a member of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) – a network of more than 80 human rights organizations and institutions in Europe and the Mediterranean area. The decision to admit KVINFO as a member was made on the network’s general assembly in Copenhagen, running from 31 May to 3 June. Organisations from 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa are part of the network, including many countries where KVINFO has established partnerships.

The campaign for equal citizenship rights for women is being neglected by politicians, according to the coordinator of the campaign. Lina Abou-Habib says a member of the ministerial committee tasked with debating the issue has openly admitted the establishment of the panel was merely a placatory move.
