    Violence against women costs Egypt an annual 150 billion pounds

    A research paper prepared by Hamdi al-Henawy, professor of social economy, has shown that violence against women costs Egypt an annual LE147.6 billion. (=24 billion USD) The paper argued that the community pays LE841 (140 USD) a month per adult woman for medical treatment and due to the disruption of her productivity as a result of violence done against her.

Women Human Rights Activists Sentenced to Prison in Saudi Arabia
On 15 June 2013 a District Court i Saudi Arabia sentenced two human rights defenders, Wajeha Al-Huwaider and Fawzia Al-Oyouni, to ten months in prison. Also, a two year travel ban was imposed.Al-Huwaider campaigns to abolish the male guardianship system and stop forced marriages of young girls in Saudi Arabia.
