About KVINFO

KVINFO is the Danish Centre for Information on Gender, Equality and Diversity. KVINFO is based on an extensive research library, but the centre also publishes a regular web magazine and runs a comprehensive website covering all aspects of gender research, equality legislation and women’s history. Since 2006 KVINFO has been involved in a number of joint partnership projects in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

KVINFO’s activities

KVINFO predominantly works with the documentation of findings from gender research projects and with active communication of these to the public. KVINFO also works to promote the knowledge and expertise of women in society. This work is mainly carried out by using web-based information resources. Through KVINFO’s mentor network, which pairs up Danish women and women refugees or immigrants in mentoring couples, the organisation strengthens women’s access to the labour market. Lastly, KVINFO is an active player in Arab-Danish joint partnership projects aimed at supporting women’s rights in the Middle East and North Africa.

Web resources and the promotion of information

KVINFO’s core activities are represented by the on-line promotion of knowledge about gender issues and equality. KVINFO’s Danish website covers the following:

  • databases listing women experts and professionals
  • library database
  • news and articles focusing on gender
  • biographical encyclopaedia of Danish women
  • digitalised historical source material
  • forthcoming events calendar
  • comprehensive ‘links’ section
  • KVINFOs web magazine

Furthermore, the life stories of many immigrant women and men are presented in the sections ‘The Invisible Success’ and ‘New Men in Denmark’.

‘All About Gender’ is KVINFO’s English language information service with a wealth of information and resources on women, gender and society and gender research in Denmark. All material on ‘All About Gender’ in Denmark is based on material accessible on our Danish website. Womendialogue.org takes a broader view and provides information about gender and equality in Danish, English and Arabic to Danish and Arab audiences.

KVINFO’s organization

KVINFO is a self-owned organization under the Danish Ministry of Culture and has approximately 45 employees. The centre’s governing body is composed of representatives from research institutions, research libraries and women’s organizations. The Ministry of Culture is not represented here.

KVINFO works with a wide range of partners, both in Denmark and abroad, and is financed by both ministry grants and support from a large number of private funds.
